Traveling to San Miguel de Allende

Assuming you are flying into Mexico, your airport choices are Mexico City (MEX) or Leon, Guanajuato (BJX). San Miguel is about a four hour drive from the Mexico City International Airport – by bus, van or private driver. San Miguel is an hour and a half drive from the Leon airport – by van, private driver or taxi.

From many airports in the United States, Mexico City International Airport is typically a direct flight. Flights to the Leon airport usually involve one stop, in Houston, Dallas or Los Angeles. Depending on where you are coming from, flying to the Mexico City airport may be less expensive than to the Leon airport but more costly in terms of time and convenience.

A common way of getting to San Miguel from the Mexico City international airport is to take the first-class bus (three hours and around $20./ticket) from the terminal to Queretaro, where you can catch an inexpensive bus to San Miguel (one hour) or a taxi or van. Van, private driver and taxi transportation can also be arranged directly from the Mexico City airport – more convenient than the buses and also more costly.

Perhaps the best way to get to San Miguel from the Leon airport is to reserve van transportation in advance. Depending on the service and the number of passengers, van transportation from the Leon airport to San Miguel can cost between $25. and $80. USD. Typically your van driver will drop you directly at our door.
